A Victory for Bees in Thornton

We heart our honeybees!

Thats the sentiment of Thornton residents interested in keeping backyard bee hives.

A group called Thornton Loves Bees worked hard to convince the city council to adopt a backyard beekeeping ordinance.

Dan Finerty sent an email in January asking for help in the effort to get a responsible beekeeping ordinance passed by contacting members of the city council.

I was happy to send messages to all the council members, thanking those who supported the ordinance and asking the other council members to reconsider their opposition.

Beth Humenik, council member for Ward 3, replied to my message.

garden under glass.

i love the look of exotic looking plants living under glass, with green bits of moss peeking out from their containers. ive had an old cloche bell jar i picked up at paxton gate, a wonderful local purveyor of all things unusual in the mission district, but i thought he looked a little lonely. so yesterday when at west elm, i saw they theyre now carrying a a large collection of indoor gardening containers by shane powers, so i just had to get this tall cloche to complement its smaller vintage mate. they seem quite happy together, and i do hope they thrive (i.e.

Viking Range 86es colored appliances Pumpkin, adds Wasabi

Increasing my skepticism toward Pantones choice of orangish hue Tangerine Tango for color of the year is Vikings choice to replace Pumpkin and other less-popular choices for  colored appliances with finishes that sound like they were plucked straight from the pantry.

Viking nearly doubled its colored appliance choices in 2008 to 24, including Metallic Silver, Oyster Gray and Golden Mist. But Dijon, Wasabi, Cinnamon and Kettle Black as called by Viking, not the pot (couldnt resist) will overtake those four come March.

Coincidentally, I featured Pumpkin and Golden Mist in a previous roundup of kitchen appliance colors because I thought them sodistinctive.
