Deciding on The Right Scaffolding Type

For many projects contractors and construction workers chose to use scaffolding rather than simply a ladder; there are numerous reasons why, and there are also numerous types of scaffolding to choose from. Depending on your particular needs there is probably a specific type of scaffolding that would work best. The three main types of scaffolding include: suspended scaffolding, supported scaffolding, and mechanical scaffolding, or lifts. As I said, each type serves a specific purpose and should be used only in certain ways or certain job types. It is also important to note that safety is always a concern; proper safety should always be a high priority when using scaffold.

Suspended scaffolding is a simple design. It usually consists of a supportive base to stand on; and a system of ropes and pulleys. The suspended scaffolding is, as the name implies, suspended from the top of the building with rope or cable; using pulleys the scaffolding workers can raise and lower the scaffolding manually. The more traditional scaffolding is supported scaffolding; which essentially consists of frames and supports build from the ground up. This is by far the most common, as well as the simplest type of scaffolding. The third type of scaffolding is an aerial lift. While it is not technically a traditional type of scaffolding it does accomplish the same thing. Aerial lifts are much more mobile than normal scaffolding; they are also more adjustable and more secure. The only down side to an aerial lift is that they are significantly more expensive to purchase than traditional scaffolding. Depending on what type of work you are hoping to do there is likely some type of scaffolding available that will work for you; whether it is suspended, supported, or a mechanical lift.
