Moving a Parent When the Time Has Come
When you have a parent who is elderly, it can be rather disconcerting not knowing whether or not he/she is able to care for him/herself properly. This is even truer if you live a good distance away and cannot be there often to check and see how things are going. If you wind up getting a call in the middle of the night that someone found your mom or dad on the floor after having suffered a fall, and as a result your parent is hospitalized, there are many different decisions you will have to make. Some of these decisions will be quite difficult to make and literally heart breaking. The most obvious choice for those who can afford it would be to hire some sort of home health nurse to care for your parent 24 hours a day. If this is not possible you may have to look into nursing or retirement homes.
With the decision to put a parent in a nursing or retirement home comes the task of figuring out what you will do with all of his/her personal belongings. This is especially true if your mom or dad still lives in the big house you grew up in. Imagine what you will do with decade’s worth of sentimental items and furniture. The good news is you may opt to do one of two things. If you have decided to hire someone to care for your mom or dad you might want to find a smaller apartment for him/her to live in so that it is easier to get around. In this case you could hire dallas apartment movers to come in and pack everything up, bringing some stuff to the new apartment and some to a storage unit that you have rented for the excess stuff.
